'Asylum'

Background:
First short film, shot with little Panasonic HD cam (£250) and the cheapest tripod available at Jessops (£20) and then edited in in the fantastic and free iMovie.

2 friends of mine - Ricky and Ryan - were doing a college project, shooting derelict buildings and making soundscapes, and they asked me to make them a website: site here

Whilst looking through their stuff, I got quite obsessed with a derelict asylum called 'Hellingly' that they had shot at. A storyline developed and I roped them in to returning to the scene to re-enact their day and become part of the story.

We had to 'break in' and had no idea what we would be able to shoot or for how long, so it was a major hit and run job - no lights, no shooting plan, just 5 of us trying not to fall through holes in the floor with me setting shots up on the fly and hoping we had enough to tell the story.

The film has since been a festival selection at the Southern California Film Festival and was shortlisted for 'Achievement in Cinematography', which kind of goes to show - it's not always about about having the best tools - just go out and do it!
